Is your query spelled correctly?"

Are you using Sql Server 2000 as your database? because search does not work on (W)MSDE.

yes .. I am using SQL server 2000, so what DB should I use for implementing search function? .. please advise

It does work on Sql server just not on WMSDE, you should check to see if the Full-Text search engine of the database is installed and running. And ofcourse if the word you are searching for does exist somewhere on your site.

In the SQL Server Enterprise manager select your Sharepoint database and look for the item Full-Text Catalogs, make sure there is one or else create a new catalog.

Also in the SQL Server Enterprise manager there should be a item for the Full-Text search engine under Supported services, make sure Full-Text search is running (if installed)

Hello,

Are you running Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) or SharePoint Portal Server (SPS). The search and indexing is different for the two products.

Regards,
Thomas

I am running SPS? .. any comment?

TIA

Hello,

Have you checked the index logfiles? Does the account you are using for the indexing/search estup properly (does it have sufficient rights).

You can check the index log files in yout SharePoint Site Settings. Does the useraccount you are logged on to SharePoint with have rights to those different parts your are indexing? SharePoint will only display search results to content which you have access to.

A common problem I've seen is that the account used for indexing, crawling does not have enough permissions. SharePoint creates a couple of Windows Security Groups when installed, make sure the account used is in the correct groups.

Regards,
Thomas
