Hi, currently my search isnt showing up anything in a document library or any other webpart.

How do I setup the search to crawl everything in my portal site including what is contained in web parts.

At the top of the configure search and indexing page I currently have:

"For enhanced security, portal site Web Part Pages are currently excluded from the index.
To include this content in the index, click Exclude and include portal site Web Part Pages in the General Content Settings and Indexing Status section."

But I dont know what to do from there.

Hello,

Have you setup any other content indexes, content sources other than the default ones that comes with SharePoint Portal Server. Under Manage content indexes and content sources you can see what is included and excluded in the index and content sources.

Thomas

First let me thankyou for responding Thomas2000 and encourage everyone in this Forum to respond if they can help, there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions here.

I have set up a few in trying to get it to work but so far no luck. I did manage to get rid of that message saying webparts were not included.

If I was to remove all my current indexes, what would I need to do to include in my search Document Libraries in Topics and Team Sites?

I'm not sure but could it be because I'm just using the desktop SQL engine, because I also dont have the search option in team sites?

Hello,

well..document libraries and topics should be included in the content index Portal_content and the WSS sites created should be a part of the non_Portal Content index (this should be done by default). And then when you chose to perform a full update of the index(s) everything should be searchable. Also check the Gatherer logs and see if any errors occured when doing the update.

I assume that you have rights to all the document libraries that you expect to get results from? When executing a search only results from areas, sites, libraries that the user excuting the search has atleast read rights to will be displayed.

When it comes to SQL this is what microsoft says about SharePoint Portal Server and Desktop SQL Engine:

"If you are running SharePoint Portal Server on Windows Server 2003, Web Edition, you must have Microsoft SQL Server installed on a separate computer. You cannot use SQL Server Desktop Engine for database storage." The whole MS Knowledgebase article is located here

Thomas
