Search By Date Range (one for the experts only ;->)

I need to create a view that:-

(a) Shows all records to start with

(b) Provides a facility for the user to type in a date range (i.e. From: 01-Jan-01 To: 31-Jul-01) to narrow down the range of records displayed.

Does anyone know how to do it or better still are there any example databases out there that contain such a view.

Thanks for your help.
