Search and replace puts all replaced data on 1 line

Does anyone know if it is possible to format code properly when using search and replace?

Dreamweaver puts all the replaced code on 1 line. Even if I put formatted data such as

<body>
test
</body>

in the replace box. The result is always <body>test</body>.

Any ideas?

Never come across that. We have used Find/Replace for whole bodies of a page before and it worked fine. I will have a look and see if there any prefs that affect this

Thanks for the effort. You think it could be the prefs? I have the same problem at work so I thought it was a problem of DW.
