Search and Categories Property Tab

I'm new to SharePoint and have a simple question you. I'm trying to assign documents to a Category. When I check out the document, and go File --> Properties, there is no Search and Categories Tab (for me to enter the Category). Any ideas what may be wrong?

The documents are fully integrated w/ SharePoint (I think). I can check them out, make changes, check them in, and SharePoint tracks the neccessary versioning info.

I am a Coordinator and I have the client utilities installed on my box.

I believe you have to have categories included in your profile for the folder. If it is not, try a profile with categories included and see if that solves your problem.
