We'd like to be able to search for data elements across multiple universes at a time instead of having to open each one and do a separate search to find things.

Is this possible?

Yes, if you query the appropriate repository tables that contain the universe definitions (meta-data query) It's too long ago to give you the exact names of the tables you need though..

It depends on which version of BOE you're using. If it's XI and above, the info isn't in the repository, you would have to use the Designer SDK to write something to pull it out.

There is a tool available on BOB that you might be able to use: This will pull information about a universe into Excel. You can then look things up without having to open the universe in designer.
