I hear a single beep and computer is frozen, it it may go away after while. Is it a common symptom of hard drive going down?
Any help is appreciated.

Os: win2000
mobo: abit nf7s
onboard serial controller

Are you hearing the beep on bootup? Or when you are in windows?
On bootup that indicates all is well, when that happens in windows, that, i believe is called a stop.
Something is causing your computer to do that, it could be software or hardware, but it sounds like software.
What does device mgr tell you?
And also you can go to event viewer and see if you can find an error there and report back here what the error is, or you can "google" the error.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

I have never figured out what was it. I've got another identical drive and Raid connected both in mirror - since then it never happen again. Expensive fix though.
