Hi All,

I am encountering this problem and very much needed your help!!

My hard disk is Seagate 80 Gbytes Barracuda 7200.7
Model: ST380011A

I upgraded my harddirve about three months ago to a Seagate 80 Gbytes Barracuda 7200.7
Model: ST380011A. It started clicking and the computer will not detect it (and also freezes up my computer whenever I connect it to the IDE).

I really want to retrieve the data that I have on the disk which, is al my business transaction, but don't know what to do. Please give me some suggestions that I can try! thank you so much!!!

There are two other options.

1 Freezer

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.
Take drive out, jumper it as slave, wrap the drive in tinfoil to keep out moisture. Put it in a baggie and then put in the freezer for about 6 hrs or overnite.
Take it out and hook it up as slave to your computer and boot. If it runs then get your data off as quick as you can as when it warms up it will start clicking again.

2

Sharp rap on the side of the drive or drop it so the corner or edge hits the floor from about a foot off the ground.

These are the two "home" remedies, but if your data is very important then you should follow what dbdata said.
You can also google for data recovery specialists but you have 2 already and i suspect they would all be about the same, very very expensive.

MIS1234,

Though the suggestions that Garebo has made are generally
suitable to try for the average Home User, I would be more inclined to go with a Pro as dbData has suggested, only because of the business data that you have mentioned.

I'm not trying to add "insult to injury" but you might want to consider some type of future disaster recovery plan ie: External Hard Drive, Cd-Burner..etc..etc...
