I have a report developed in Version 8 and saved in Seagate Info Version 7 (We are using Vs 7).

I however cannot change the data source as I wish to point to a different ODBC connection...(and database)

Can anyone advise if this is possible please... and/or any workarounds....

TIA

As long as the ODBC connection you change to in the report design is also available on the Info Server, then this very possible.

Please post the specifics if you encounter any problems.

We have had problems saving report in Version 7 format from Version 8.0 or 8.5. The biggest problems were in lines, boxes and other formatting details. Not sure about the ODBC connections... Howard Hammerman,

The ODBC connection is not available on the server...hence my problem. I appears the naming of the ODBC connection appears to get 'embedded' in reports.. This is not a SQL query but a selection of joined tables....

What if any are the trends....out there..??? are people using SQL querys..or just joined data tables..assume just personal preference.

The crsytal query tool is going out of use.
Lots of people are using stored procedures. Howard Hammerman,

Stored procedures...Behind the report??...as DLL's??.

I have a need to setup something like this that is Universal over all our reports...Can U point me in the right direction (other than this site of course..)

So are you implying people write reports now just by linking tables..??

The problem I have is getting a good ERD with the tables I have in Oracle. We have a doc with table links but not showing the exact relationship..between tables...going off beam here a bit

TIA

Kind of off the beaten track here, but let's tackle both your queries: when Howard mentioned stored procedures, he just meant that it's more common for people to report from the results of a stored procedure as opposed to reporting from a query - namely because the sql tool is being put to sleep by Crystal. You can still use the sql tool - but for longevity, you might want to think about switching to SPs in the future.

(With regard to getting a decent Oracle ERD, I think Quest Software may have this functionality enabled and automated on one of their products. You might wanna check it out online.)

Anyway...back to the odbc. I'm assuming that your problem is that you haven't created the odbc connection on the server thru ODBC Administrator to copy that of the odbc alias on your client. Set this up on the server, and you should be good to go.
