Looking at the infomration from the manufacturer for my SDLT's I see that they have a limiotation of 1,000,000 passes. The problem is this doesn't mean anything to me if I can't figure out how many passes they have gone through. I am currently using Backup Exec 11d, and teh only reference I can find to the tape usage are the Mounts, Seeks, and the Soft/Hard Write/Read errors. The mounts on all my tapes (some of which have been used for years) are all low (60 - 80, nowhere near a million). The Seeks are in the low thousands, and the soft write errors are pushing (in some cases) 10,000. read error also very in th elow hundreds. Most of the tapes don't show any hard errors (or the ones that do show very low numbers like 1 or 2). But I don't know what any of this really means, and am wondering if any of it can be used to determine if a tape should be replaced or not. Any Advice?
