Hello,

I am curious what the experience has been for anyone who upgraded to 6.0 from 5.x specifically to take advantage of SData? We have various custom applications in need of work to meet expanding requirements. Seeing as 6.0 introduced SData, it seems natural to upgrade in order to take advantage of a better way to interact with the API.

Reading some previous post on here, I have seen many negative comments about SData. I respect the opinions of the users on this forum and was hoping you could enlighten me. Thannks!

Few have bothered. 100% of my development is in VB or VBA, and now that 6.1 will not be web-based, I don't see any need for Sdata, because none of my clients are asking for it.

Although 6.1 is not going to be web-based as originally thought, won't SData continue to be pushed across Sages's line of products as a common interface? I guess, I'm thinking if this is the interface they plan to push eventually on all their products it makes sense to go that route now and avoid larger headaches down the road (assuming time/cost aren't factors).

Sages's line of products"? From what I see, all of their products are totally independent architectures. Sage ERP 300 <> X3 <> Peachtree <> Sage Pro. All Sage has done is buy up the middle market, except for Great Plains, which Microsoft bought.

SData will still interface with the Views. If you start to work with SData you might find that you're not able to be as efficient vs using the COMApi as you're doing now. If you wanted to get into writing an interface for Accpac on the iOS platform or Android then you might want to look into SData. If you're sticking with the Windows platform - stick with COM.

Indeed. Thanks for the insights. I was worried that COM support was going to be discontinued in 6.1 Web Deployment and it could carry over to other versions in the future.

The COM interface will not be dropped in the foreseeable future, heck they still support CA-BLE and hardly anyone knows what that is.
I'm sure if we dig deep we will find CA-Ret and Supercalc support... (just kidding)
