our companies engineer file server is on on a windows NT 4 computer but when we booted it up it's not reading a operating system. I can take care of this however if I can access the SCSIC card but can't seem to do get to it... Is there any pointers you guys have to save the files on the harddrive?

Hi,

If a reboot won't get it to load and loading in VGA mode doesn't work, I would try the following:

1. If there is another server on the network, build a network bootdisk for the server's LAN card, load the DOS driver for the SCSI adapter from config.sys, then use NTFSDOS to read the data off and copy it onto the other server. You will lose the long filenames this way, but the data will be there.

2. You might if possible try putting the disk into a different machine to copy the data across; remember though that NTFS access permissions will mean you will need to change ownership to one of the new host machine to get to the data.

3. Boot from the NT setup CD and create a new installation into a separate directory, then you should be able to access the drive.
