Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum, but was the closest I could find. I have a tape drive on a 50 pin scsi connection and a hdd on a 68 pin connector, they both plug into the same scsi card (adaptec 29160). I understand that the speed of the scsi connection is determined by the slowest device. Does this refer to the devices on the same ribbon cable, or all the devices connecting to the same scsi adapter?

many thanks

On same "chain" / "channel".

You can have 7 devices attached to the scsi cable and the slowest speed on the cable affects all. So it is best to not have mixed speeds on the cable.

Thanks

So if I have two separate SCSI cables, one device won't slow the other down?

Nope, they would be 2 independant chains / channels.

They should not impeded on each other.
