I had a tape get stuck in my DLT1 external SCSI drive, a new one was
RMA's to me, put the same settings on the drive SCSI ID#8 and the
terminator, rebooted the server and installed it but it is not
working, I either get a NO BOOT DISK error or a improper termination
error, I have tried changing the SCSI ID and tried with and without
the terminator and still can't get it to work, any suggestions?

My SCSI card is a Adapatec 2940.

At what point are you getting the error messages? When the 2940 card is initializing? are the system's boot drives running on the same 2940 card as the tape drive? It seems to me to almost certainly a termination problem. Did you receive an identical drive as before or a different model. Have you tried going into the 2940 card's BIOS and seeing if all the drives are detected? Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.

Thanks for the reply.
I get the error after the 2940 initializes, it is the same drive. here is a little more info, I went into the 2940 config and notices if I have the drive connected none of the other scsi drives are detected (less the 2940), yes, the boot drives are on the 2940.

I agree it seems it's a termination problem, but I have tried w/ and without terminator and the 2940 will not recognize the HDD's, only the 2940.

Are the internal devices using the 50pin or 68pin connections (or both). My thought is that some versions of the 2940 card can only use one of the two internal connections if the external connection is being used. Although, this does not really explain how it would have worked before.

Okay, things are clicking. The internal devices using 68pin, awhile back I opened the server and noticed one of teh SCSI drives was unplugged, powered down and plugged it in, still didn't work, but the tape drive continued to work. I probably need to unplug that drive again...
