Howdy!

I just added an adaptec card and dds4 tape drive to SCO server. I followed steps I've used before but this time, the tape drive appears under target ID 7 instead of 6.

I defined the card as target ID 7 then the tape drive as target ID 6 ... Is there a file I can manually edit to fix this?

Interesting enough, if I use mkdev and view scsi devices, tape appears as target ID 6 while 'hwconfig' shows it as target ID 7.

What must I do?

Thank you all in advance!

You might want to read this technote from SCO's site:

What do you mean by defining the card as Target ID 7? That is the default, but you don't need to do anything in SCO for that.

I'm not sure I could help much further on this, but it would be helpful to state which Adaptec (and driver) you are using, and also to post your "hwconfig -h" and "mkdev scsi --> Display Configuration" results.

Have you tried simply changing the jumpers on the drive so it is seen as ID 6? If you set it as 6 and it shows as 7, what happens when you set it as 5?

Sometimes jumper settings and docs can be inconsistent, starting at 0 instead of 1, or vice versa.

I ended-up re-installing SCO, this time using a 1940 in lieu of 1960.

Installing SCO does not find (self install) 1960 card while it does pretty well for the 1940 - Makes my life easier.

I now face the problem that my backup software does not find the media but it finds the tape drive itself. I guess I take this one problem to their support department.

Thanks;
