Hi,

Sorry for my english.

I tried to configure 3 exchange 2003 server to be dedicated storage node and dynamic drive sharing.

The NW server 7.2.2 is a solaris 10 with an adic scalar i2000 with 6 IBM ultrium LTO II drive attached.
After made a jbconfig (sji autochanger) when i try to mount a tape on a physical drive linked to a remote device (DSN+DDS) after an utilisation of this remote device i got a cdi error 16 16

I try disabling CDI for the device but after this the system return a permission denied to load a tape.

An mt status return that the drive is locked, the only way to re-use this drive is a soft rest in the JB gui.

I read some paper about scsi reserve/release but i not really sure about that issue.

If someone had a workaround maybe in the JB configuration an help would be helpful.

Kind Regards

You should read the daemon.log file for more details. Most likely, you will have a block size problem as SCSI drivers on Windows usually cut the blocks at 64kB while UNIX does not do that. The block size is stored on tape when the media is labeled. Consequently you will have a problem reading a tape written by a UNIX OS in a Windows device.

Please read the "Performance Tuning Guide" for instructions how to solve the problem.

thank's for your help

I verified the block size with a tape labelled on unix and block size labelled on storage node windows and it's the same value 65536 (scanner -v device).

here is the daemon.log with the error when i try to mount a tape on the drive 5 after unmount a tape on the remote device attached to the drive 5 :

09/06/07 11:46:43 nsrd: /dev/rmt/5cbn 3:Verify label operation in progress
09/06/07 11:46:46 nsrmmd #4: check_tapealert: check_cdi_infop and cdi_open failed, 16 16 a system error occurred - see errno for more information for device /dev/rmt/5cbn
09/06/07 11:46:46 nsrd: media warning: /dev/rmt/5cbn reading: read open error: drive status is Drive reports no error - but state is unknown
09/06/07 11:46:46 nsrd: /dev/rmt/5cbn 3:Eject operation in progress
09/06/07 11:46:46 nsrmmd #4: check_tapealert: check_cdi_infop and cdi_open failed, 16 16 a system error occurred - see errno for more information for device /dev/rmt/5cbn
09/06/07 11:47:17 nsrd: Jukebox 'i2k' failed: expected volume '000066' got 'NULL'.

Another information is the drive 1 and 2 are in the same configuration that 5 and 6 (dsn + dds for 3 windows file server) and there is no problem with this drive and storage node.

Kind regards

Hello,

I found the solution, it's a driver problem
Windows 2003 server and the ibm ultrium lto2 driver is a long story of problems.
Thank's for your help

Hmm - well done.
