My Dell 2650 server has 3 SCSI (RAID-5) drives. 1 disk is gone offline and shows as down. Actual size of this disk in windows is 67Gb, actual data that we placed on this drive is 17Gb, But it shows only 500Mb free space. What could be done to troubleshoot this drive? Why it is showing only 500Mb Free Space? Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Sam

Sounds like your parity is being written to your two drives that are working instead of the dead drive. I assume you have three 36 gig drives?

If this is a production machine you are better off replacing the drive then trying to figure out the cause of a bad hard drive. You can trouble shoot a dead drive later. At some point you're gonna fill the drive and/or start losing your data/parity.

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Actually it was the User Rights issue on some folders which used over 64Gb of data. Windows doesn't see the data when you right click on the folder on which you don't have access granted, so it can't figure out bytes used on the disk. Once rights were given all looks great. Thanks for your suggestion though.
