Ok I do some computer work for friends left and right, and somebody called me looking for some help on their work computer. They use a scsi jazz drive to backup important data files. They said a little while ago it started making unusual noises when trying to work it.
It boots up, it gets power to the drive, and it shows up under my computer. But when they try to access it, it makes unusual noises.
I'm going out to take a look at it tomorrow. There are a couple things i'm wondering though.
Do the disks ever go bad? Is there a possibility that it could be a bad disk and its making unusual noises trying to read that disk? I asked them if they had another disk to try putting another disk in and they didn't.
Are SCSI Jazz Drives still manufactured? If it's bad, we could try swapping a new one.
What else can i check to find the problem?
