Hi,

I use a couple IDE drives right now, but am thinking about getting a new system with SCSI drives. I was told that I can only use SCSI drives with other SCSI drives, but I wanted to store a bunch of video stuff on one of my IDE drives and transfer it to one of the SCSI drives. How can I do this, if I can't use them on the same computer? I don't have a zip or CD/RW drive, so that is not an option.

Thanks for any help.

You can use BOTH SCSI and IDE on the same system in Windows 9x and Windows NT/2000. You should not have a problem. If you want to use SCSI on a system just ensure you set it to boot from SCSI in the BIOS. Other wise you should have NO problem.

Hope this helps. James Collins

Depending on the bios. If you don't have a scsi boot choice the bios will probably want to boot off the primary master ide. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I don't want to boot off the IDE drive. I just want to transfer a lot of video files from an IDE drive to a SCSI drive. I want to put a lot of video files on my current IDE capture drive, and when I get my new system (which will have two SCSI drives) I want to be able to temporarily remove one of the SCSI drives, replace it with the IDE drive, and transfer the video files to my new system. Is this do-able?

I have 2 ide and 2 scsi drives in my system. What you want to do is very doable. Plus I have a dvd and a cdrw in my system.

It is very doable. as long as you keep all the system files on the boot drive you should have no problems. Just make sure your BIOS is set to boot to SCSI first. Give it a shot. James Collins
