Has anyone had a problem with adpu160m3 hanging on boot process?

It will eventually load, however I believe I have narrowed it to be my scsi DLT. The drivers are loaded for the tape backup.

Dell PowerEdge 2500

Thank you. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

Hi,
have you checked for bent pins on the cable & scsi connectors. Also what ID is the TBU setup as ?

You could also try moving the slot the card is in, there could be an irq resource problem running the card in a particular slot particulary if its on the same bus as a remote mangagement card.

I have four Dell PE 2550 servers, all with adpu160m3 cards in them, and all four have this exact problem. I have never been able to find a solution, no matter what I've tried. Anybody else have this problem?

trying to think back a year.

i recall i had a problem with the dell software for backups - the CA software was junk

ditched it finally and went with the windows backup method that has worked well over the past year or so.

i also had problems with perf libraries loading - actually this is an ongoing one.

I have the same problem on 1 2550, 3 others with identical software work fine. Dell has been unable to help. Veritas backup exec, DELL 2550 and DLT. The SCSI bus for the DLT hangs after a couple of days. Anyone find a solution. I have replaced all hardware and still the same problem.

Hi,

I have the exact problem!!
I have a PowerEdge 2600 with internal LTO drive. Dell replaced the motherboard, SCSI cable and LTO drive, but still the server crashes, with Event id 9, source mraid2k.

Dell now thinks its software related. By reading the posts above, it looks like my backup software is causing the server crashes.....(I`m using BackupExec 8.6) Crashes only occur when a backup is about to begin, or after 1 hour into a backup.

Is this plausible? A software causing a hardware related error?

Any info much appreciated,
Danny

IMHO - and experience, you bet software can crash a system. Could be drivers, programs, conflicts, etc. but yeah it can.

Although my scsi experience is quite a bit lower than IDE type harddrives and such.

I'd suggest trying to narrow the problem more now that you have at least an indication of when it occurs. and check out for specific Event ID information (sometimes helpful, sometimes not but it can't hurt to try)

Then remove the backup program, make sure you have your updates - maybe you have a dell driver that conflicts with windows - or who knows.

Then try a backup with windows backup - (i'm guessing your on windows server software here) if all goes good than your narrowing it down bit by bit.

but by all means - write down EVERYTHING you do. in order.
