I just upgraded my system from a RS 6000 to a new pseries 7029 6E3. I did not realize that the new machine did not come with a external scsi connector for my external tape drive. I called IBM to get a quote on an internal tape that fits in one of the bays and also a scsi card for hooking up my original tape drive. Both prices were rediculous. I would appreciate any ideas on third party cards or internal tape drives. My IT guy suggests that we need to stick with IBM only. Please advise.

Well, personnaly i suggest you go for IBM SCSI card if you are currently using IBM machines now and planning to put it internally. In this case, whatever happens to your IBM machines, there is no chance for them to point out other products and they will be force to isolate what ever problems.
good luck dudes!

7029 is still an rs/6000. The problem you are going to run into is,IBM uses vital product data chips on everything,to tell the machine what it is. Drivers will be an issue unless you can find one that has an AIX driver for version 5.2. Most third party cards will make the risc puke. If you want to look at an OEM tape drive. IBM uses the seagate DAT drives, with special firmware. Good Luck.

I shall use google before asking stupid questions!
