Scroller is slow on a P1 1

Is there a text scroller that will run well on a P1? All the scrollers I've used are unforgivably choppy and slow.

I've considered using a page down like button, but that too would be slow and I imagine people clicking it multiple times and ending up at the bottom of the document (not to mention frustrated!).

Is there something I've overlooked?

You mean that of all of these:

Including this one in Flash MX...

None works somewhat smootly and fast enough, when you just screen them?

If so, think it's time to upgrade! Which is what I'm doing
over the weekend. P2-350 to P4-1.8.

My problem is that they work fine there, but when I put my text in for thiers (and that's all I change), it becomes very slow.

I assume that the size of the text box and the size of the text file impacts the framerate and that is why it doesn't work well when I adopt it (even though my text isn't that long).

The swf itself is only 12k so it can't have anthing to do with that.

And it's not my system (I have two p4 1.7s). I'm designing a site for a literary journal and I'm assuming that clientel wouldn't have the latest hardware--perhaps I'm stereotyping, but either way I'd like to get decent framerates.

I do understand that people with hardware like that are used to slow performance and expect no more, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and so I'm fixated on this problem.

Well, I did use one of the links you provided because it was a bit faster--it still isn't ideal or even good, but I guess there is nothing else that I can do.

Thanks.
