scroll left to right once onload with jquery

I have a header that I want to display a news item, just one that I will change every now and again. To draw attention to it I would like it to scroll in from the left and then just sit there.

I have looked at the jquery docs and can`t fathom out how to do this. Does anyone know of any tutorials that I can use to achieve this? In future i would also like it to bounce when it enters, is this 'easing'?
