One of my users receives the following warning message whenever he opens IE 6.0:
"A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort this script?" choices are Yes or No.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Thanks!

Warning !!!
This could also be a trojan , trying to fool you
to click the YES or NO button .
If the dialog box has a X in the upper right corner
use that ,or kill it in task manager . Then scan the computer .

Thank You! I'll explore all of these areas.

If you use crytal report when this is happening .
This might also apply:

In Crystal Enterprise (CE) 9, when viewing a report with a large group tree, approximately 6700 iterations of a group, in the DHTML viewer using Internet Explorer (IE) 6, the following error message appears:

"A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"

If either the 'Yes' or 'No' button is clicked, the group tree is created and the report displays without error.

Why does this occur?

Solution

This occurs because the length of time the DHTML script takes to create the group tree may cause IE to time out.

There are three ways to work around this issue:

Use the ActiveX viewer to view report
-------------------------------------

To change the viewer, complete the following steps:

1. Go to 'Start' > 'Programs' > 'Crystal Enterprise 9' > 'Crystal Launchpad' > 'Crystal Management Console' (CMC).

2. Click the 'Preferences' button on the top right corner of the CMC.

3. Select 'ActiveX' from the 'Viewer' list box and click 'OK'.

Disable the report group tree
-----------------------------
To do this, complete the following steps:

1. Open the report in the Crystal Reports designer.

2. On the 'File' menu click 'Report Options'.

3. Clear the 'Create Group Tree' check box and save the report to the Enterprise system.

Increase the script timeout in Internet Explorer
------------------------------------------------

In IE 4 and higher, the script timeout value can be changed on specific client computers by modifying a registry entry.

============================
WARNING: Using the Registry Editor can cause serious problems that may require reinstalling the operating system. Crystal Decisions is not responsible for any problems resulting from using the Windows Registry Editor. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. It is recommended that you back up the registry before you edit it.
============================

To change this timeout value in Internet Explorer, complete the following steps:

1. Go to 'Start' > 'Run' > 'Regedit'.

2. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Styles

====================
NOTE:

This key does not exist by default. If the key has not been added, IE defaults to 5,000,000 statements executed as the trigger for the timeout dialog box.

If the key does not exist you must add it to your registry.
====================

3. Create a new 'DWORD' value called "MaxScriptStatements" under this key and set the value to the desired number of script statements.

After performing any of these solutions, the error message no longer appears when viewing the report.
