I have a custom legacy software suite that is difficult to manage, especially during backup. I am looking for a way to find all currently logged in users on the domain (adding host name would be nice but not necessary). Then, from the returned list then be able to force a remote logoff.

Is this a pipe dream or is it possible? If possible, any and all help is welcome.

Thanks in advance

You don't actually "log on" to a domain in the sense that you "log on" to a PC. All you're really doing is authenticating against the domain to see if you are allowed to log on to a specific PC using those credentials. As such, the domain doesn't keep track anywhere of who is logged in. You could conceivably track who has authenticated successfully against the domain, but the domain won't know whether that use has logged off or not.

Basically, you would have to query each machine individually to see if someone was logged on, then log them off, and hope nobody logs back on while your backup is running or in the time between you kicking them off and the backup starting.
