Hi all,

Do you know what setting could prevent a screenshot from appearing in an email?

For example, I take a screenshot of an error message (via Alt + Print Screen) and paste it directly into an email. At an external recipient end, the picture does not appear. It does appear to all internal recipients.

For some strange reason, it only occurs on some occassions i.e. a screenshot from a java app.

This is a setting in the recipients email client. Many (good) email clients block this by default to prevent malicious code/viruses from being executed.

Changing or enabling this is different for each mail client.

Google "display images message body xxxx" where xxxx is the recipient's mail client.

Good email clients block linked images, generally not embedded ones. That's to prevent beaconing.

However, most email clients allow for reading mail in plain text.

Is it consistent to specific recipients? I could see some sort of content monitoring/filtering solution stripping them out.

Try this - do the screen capture, open paint, paste it there, and save it as a .jpg. Attach the .jpg file to the email and see if it arrives as an attachment.

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies.
I have tried to replicate the problem with a screenshot of different app screens. They successfully appear as an embedded image in the message body to both internal and external recipients.
At this point of time, it seems to be just that one Java app which has an issue when you paste the screenshot directly. I am pretty sure saving it as a jpeg and attaching it will work.
Have you experienced anything alike for Java-based apps?
