Hi,

Any screensaver I choose will not activate if the time delay setting is greater than one minute. they all work fine if the the setting is 1 minute. I have reinstalled Win98SE more than once and have disabled all programs in the tray. The only thing running is "Volume".

Does anybody have any suggestions besides "There must be another program that is too active to let the system go into standby"

Thanks,
aconakc

What do you have running in the 'ctrl-alt-del' pop-up window? There maybe some low level program that is active and causing this.

I completely disabled the start-up folder. There is nothing in the tray and the only thing in the 'ctrl-alt-del' pop-up window is explorer. Screensaver still works at 1 minute but nothing higher.

???

except when I'm troubleshooting Norton antiviru is constantly running in the background. But I'm not sure how that would disable effect the screensaver only when setfor more than 1 minute.

There maybe something quitely working in the background that is not obvious to you. It would be worth doing a full system scan just in case. Some viruses only alter info on your hard disc very slowly (so you don't notice) the 'ripper' virus is a classic example of this.

It would also be worth disableing any power management functions that are active in control panel just in case.

Check in your BIOS for the motherboard under power management. Either disable it, or Set Default settings & see if this changes anything.
