Screensaver settings will not hold on Win 98 SE

I have a Compaq model 7478 with a 533 AMD processor with a Windows 98 SE OS. The screensaver settings revert back to none (on the type of screensaver option). I'm sure that someone with more experience can give me a few ideas about how to get it to work properly. Thanking you in advance.

Suppose the specified scr file exists.
Have you checked BIOS for possible settings ?
Run regedit and go to HKEY_USERS\Default\ControlPanel\Desktop . ScreenSaveActive should be set to 1.

Checked the regedit and ScreenSaverActive is set to 1. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your time and interest. EN.
