screen resolution problem

Hallo,
Host: WinXP Pro
Guest: WinXP Pro

The resolution of my PC is 1280x800 but I cannot make it work in the guest system. I tried to add a registry key as suggested here

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1003,

but the new resolution won't be available (by the way in my registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmx_svga\Device0.
there aren't any resolution.x entries).

Does anyone has another hint? thanks

Have you installed the VMware Tools?
