Hi all

Been asked to setup a new laptop, make/spec as yet unknown, and utilise an existing non widescreen 19" monitor.

What sort of issues might there be with suitable screen resolution(s)?

TIA

If the laptop is reasonably new it should have a fairly decent embedded gfx chipsets, which should in turn support multiple monitors to run with differing resolutions.

Intels Latest icore offerings have the gfx accelerator embedded into the CPU now.

Typically however, a laptop will use a widescreen resolution linke 1388x768 or higher end 1920x1080 where a 19" might be a typical 4:3 resolution line 1280X1024 and this might "feel" pretty odd moving from screen to screen.

With Windows the external monitor should run with both screens independant with a seperate resolution on each.

My four year old Dell Vostro could run at 1440x900 on my 19" wide screen monitor with 1280x1024 on the laptop screen, or be combined into a single display at 2560x960.

The limiting factor will most likely be the memory you can give up to the graphics card

Thanks both for your replies.

The user ultimately could not find a suitable place to position the monitor in relation to the laptop, so I've ended up with a spare 19" monitor. [smile]

More importantly, have noted contents of your replies should a similar situation arise again.
