Know this may sound easy but am new to Linux. Just bought a new monitor and now Linux box unable to display in any other mode then command line. How do I go about changing the screen resolution so I will be able to see the different environments i.e. KDE. I know I should be looking for a config file (or so I think), but at the moment not exactly sure where to look. Thanks in advance for any help.

If it worked before you installed the new monitor then you may need to configure the X server. I can't remember the exact command you want but I think xf86config will work.

I can't remember if it was changed in 8.0 or in 8.1, but Xconfigurator used to be the command to configure X. If you are comfortable with it, you can just vi /etc/X11/XF86Config. Start by copying it to your home directory and using startx to test the changes. Once it works, you can copy it back (as root).
