Ive just installed SUSE Linux 6.4 and my screen res is way too small, how do I change this

From a command prompt, run 'Xconfigurator'.

Ive change the setup using 'XF86Setup', selected different screen res in 'Modeselection' and 'Allow video mode switching' yet ctrl alt - and + do nothing, is there something else I need to do?
