I'm trying to use screen 3.9.8 (also tried 4.0.2) on AIX 4.3.3. It gives the above error when attempting to use screen's "multiuser" feature. I set the screen executable suid bit and set 'multiuser on' and ran 'addacl testuser', but the testuser is still not able to attach.

I found this on a few BSD web-sites:

<summary of the above>
Fix
No workaround known. Behavior is NOT found under FreeBSD
4.8-RELEASE. A search with Google suggests that this
problem may have started to manifest itself only since
FreeBSD 5.0.
<end summary>

I think it will take the help of a developer to view the code, which I am not. TIA!

Yes, both -x and -r give the same results. I tested it on a Linux box, and it works fine. But when I try the exact same test on AIX 4.3.3 it's gives the above mentioned problem.

I have a few AIX 5.x machines and suppose I could try it there.

Thanks.

Perhaps specifying the PID as in the command form:

screen -r sessionowner/[[pid.]tty[.host]]

might work?
