No warning, no flickering. The PC boots fine, and I know it is running because it has a development server I use from another PC on the network, and the server is running, I can work on it.

So I have a PC running, but no image on screen. I have changed screens, but the backup screen is not the same resolution as the normal one. However, even on boot the screen shows nothing, and resolution should not be an issue there.

If I turn the screen off and back on when the PC is running, I get the message "No Signal", and the screen goes black after five seconds.

My idea is that I need to replace the video card. How can I be sure ?

Any other ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Pascal.

I've got nothing to hide, and I'd very much like to keep that away from prying eyes.

Because you tried another monitor, that's the only other troubleshooting step. Seeing NOTHING on boot up is independent of resolution so that really shows NO VIDEO OUTPUT at all.

You can either borrow a video card from someone or another computer OR buy a CHEAP add-in AGP/PCI/PCI-E video card (whatever type the computer accepts) for testing purposes.

If the current card is integrated into the motherboard, there is a small chance that the motherboard is dieing. Another reason for a cheap video card or borrowing.

Well I have a backup video card running now, and the screen is working perfectly.
The broken card shows no signs of heating or deterioration, and there's very little dust on the fan or anywhere I can see. All its components seem intact.
Oh well, that's life in IT.

Thanks for the confirmation !
