Hi All,
I have Windows 2000 sp4, and when I reboot the computer the screen looks fine until it gets through all the start up stuff, then it goes to black and white. This just started happening out of the blue. I can switch the colors to 256 and that displays in color, but 16 bit and 32 bit only displays in black and white. Both worked before. I have tried reinstalling the video driver, setting the refresh rate to 60Hz, setting the resolution to 800X600, but nothing helps. It's definitely not the monitor, because I switched it out and got the same behavior. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas? I thought maybe I got a virus, but my virus scanner does not detect anything.

many thanks,

Barry

Hi Barry,
I have exactly the same problem with you. But I'm having windows xp instead of windows 2000. I have tried what you have done too. but that didn't fix the problem. I think it's definitly cause by some virus.I just wondering whether you already know how to fix it or not. Thank you Barry.

hello there....

i have the same problem and it just showed up last night....this problem occured after i updated and scanned my pc. my AV is norton. i don't know why and where did it come from...but it is really a problem.....i tried to reboot using safe mode, the colors did showed up...maybe a software is being loaded and it will turn
our screen to black and white...do you think that
really this is caused by a virus??? i wish
anyone could help.....

Hi Folks!
I am still not sure if my problem was caused by a virus or not, but I did get it fixed. I completely removed my existing display driver and reinstalled the latest vendor display drive r (NOT MICROSOFT'S VERSION). That fixed it immediatlely, and I have been running without problems ever since. Good luck!

Hi All,
I think it's not a virus. I tried to replace my Video Card with a new one. And it works. I haven't met any problem since then. It's all good so far:)

Good luck
