Hi everyone,

I have a laptop that freezes after about 10 minutes of use. But the mouse still functions. It just doesn't recieve any click or keyboard activity. I'm wondering if it's just a small part that needs replaced.

Thanks

Probably, but the question is WHICH of the 20,000 parts? Seriously, watch the screen as the computer boots up. On my Gateway, the mouse is the second thing recognized. Anything else after could be the problem, and the mouse still work. AS for trouble shooting, I'd first look for a heat problem. Are the fan vents all clean (carefully blow them out with a can of "clean air")? Are you using the laptop on a firm surface (not on a blanket next to you, in bed!). Can you hear the cooling fan run?

Hi Webscipter,

I came across same problem, but with Dell's PC. After running all kind of tests and hardware changes - ie: replaced video card, network card - nothing helped. Only one thing that actually helps is to do ctrl+alt+del (if keyboard works), then click cancel and everything comes back to normal for another 10 to 15 minutes. I'm leaning towards chipset problem, however I have not tested it yet.

I'll let you know if I find anything on this.

Regards,

StTaurus
