We had a problem with the values allowed on a field in the screenset - we wwere getting an error saying that it had reached its limit of 3000(?)bytes. I then tried to delete what I had added an then I got an access violation error. Since then, I have not been able to get into the screen designer - every time I try it tells me only one customization at a time. I rebooted my computer, no avail. Rebooted the server, no luck. Restored the screenset database from a backup - at least now the screenset itself is acting normally - however, I still cannot customize a screenset. I am still getting the one customization at a time error. Any ideas?

Thanks
Celeste

If there are any files named *.MUT in the company’s data folder, rename the extension and then enter Designer. These are temp files that Progression erases when exiting designer, and if it is still there when trying to enter designer, you will receive this error message.

Thanks - it worked great!

Wow, Don, where did you find this arcane bit of knowledge? I've never seen this type of file & there's no infomine that I could find in macola about it. Maybe they should write it up, eh? Gold star for you!

I ran into this once before and looked up the email.

What is the deal with the 3000 byte limit anyway? Is there a way around it?

We have several Item Master fields with drop downs and hit this limit a lot...somehow I always find some text to remove from the screen.

Kstickler-

What is the purpose of the drop downs?

You can add a search to a field, which will still allow a list of valid values.

You could also add Flex code to the field, which does not get in the way of the screen design at all, and let Flex do whatever data validation you need.

You could also create a table with a cross reference to the item number and if you only populate that table with the acceptable values then they will be the only ones that show up. You will need to modify the search to add that table. I had to do that with a client one that used very long complicated chemical names for the description and wanted to search on these long description names, some were over 200 characters long. This is a bit different from what you are doing but the principle is the same and I’m sure it will work.
