Screen captured video and Premiere Pro 2

I've used two different programs to capture my screens as videos and they look fine when I replay them immediately using Window's MediaPlayer. They also played well in Premiere 6 and I was able to integrate them into my videos. In Premiere Pro 2, however, they are a mess. The replay rate is uneven and what was smooth action in the original is jerky and, how to describe it, it looks like the video can't make up its mind exactly which frame to show.

My screen-captured videos are 24-bit at 200 fps, even though I specified 30 fps. 200 fps might be a problem, but I understand that on systems with non-24-bit video cards that video capture programs will default to using the old Microsoft Video 1 CODEC and it looks like they also capture at a high frame rate.

Does anyone know how I can fix or get around this problem using, other than filtering my videos through Premiere 6 before using them in Premiere Pro 2?

Just some thoughts ...

PPro uses more computer power than P6, so maybe you have a system that is nearer the lower end of the power range? If so, that would help explain why PPro does less well than P6.

Have you tried setting the frame rate of your clips inside Premiere using the Interpret Footage option for the clip?

Is the footage coming from a slower or external drive? If so, moving it to a fast/internal drive or defragging might help.

Depending on your target output, converting the clips to DV AVI using a utility like Virtual Dub or ProCoder would remove the problem another way.

I doubt it is my computer - dual core Pentium 4/3-something GHz, 2 GB RAM, 1 TB SATA 300 MB/s hard drive space

I'll look into the "interpret footage" option.

Footage is coming from this computer.

Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.
