Hey Everyone

We are running our ADSM on a mainframe and it has it's own tape management system under the ADSM system. We have recently found that it appears the ADSM scratch tapes are never given back to the tape management system to put into the bigger scratch pool.

Looking for any help in this area. I'm not a MF expert it just happens to be were ADSM was installed..

Thanks

Hello Stephen,

There can be two reasons for the fact that your tapes stay occupied. How many days your data is kept on tape is defined in the management class. You should have a look at the Retain Only Version in the Backup Copy Group and Retain Version in the Archive Copy Group (make sure you activate the Policy Set after changing the parameters).
The second reason can be the Reclamation Treshold in the Sequential Access Storage Pool. When this parameter is set to 100 your tapes will rarely become scratch tape again.

Hope this helps.

Hans
