I'm having a time trying to figure out what to do with scratch and retired media.

First off, say that I have emptied my library of all 8 tapes and loaded 8 blank ones. When I inventory the drives the 8 new tapes show up as scratch along with the 8 old tapes/media. Do I move the other media from the Media Set to Retired???

The particular problem I have is unloading, say, only 5 of the 8 full tapes, leave 3 empty tapes in the library and put 5 new tapes in. What do I do with the 5 full media? If I take them out of the Media Set and move them to Retired Media then delete them, all my Restore Catalogs are removed. Plus, keeping track of what media went with what catalog is a bitch, one which I don't wanna mess with.

Do I just have to keep track of the tapes/media/catalogs or is there an easier way?
