Today I just found SCP stopped working on my Linux box suddenly:

# scp
scp: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot open shared object file: Input/output error

Also I got following error:

# man scp
groff: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: Input/output error

Please help! Thanks!!!

I'd do an fsck of your filesystems, an I/O error on opening files does not sound too good... :-(

HTH,

Also when I reboot the server, I got following message:

Booting 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS(2.4.21-4.EL)'

root (hd0,0)
File system type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Kernel /vmlinu2-2.4.21-4.EL ro root=LABEL=1
[Linux - bzImage, setup = 0x1400, size=0x12c9d1]

Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem Structure

Press any key to continue

I do not what is wrong? I did not change any thing recently. Thanks!

Well you can, but imho it won't help you. The message you got is the output from fsck which is run at boot time. Someone or some process has corrupted a file system. Or your disk has crashed...

HTH,

I have restored the server from netbackup. But I found the vsftpd does not work after the restore:

[root@kojak tracking]# /sbin/service vsftpd status
vsftpd dead but subsys locked

And I have the following messages in /var/log/messages:
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: readjusting service tftp
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: readjusting service vnetd
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: readjusting service vopied
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: readjusting service ftp
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: bind failed (Address already in use (errno = 98)). service = ftp
Oct 25 10:42:13 kojak xinetd[12430]: Reconfigured: new=0 old=7 dropped=0 (services)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Check for a file named /var/lock/subsys/vsftpd, if it exists, try removing it and then doing

/etc/rc.d/init.d/vsftpd restart

(could be different location for lock file and restart command depending on distro of course)
