Hi All,

I've recently set-up a SCO Unixware 7.1 server. I now have a very frustrating problem in that I cannot print the UK currency symbol (£). I can get a £ displayed at a command prompt, however when I create a text file the £ symbol is translated as \234 and subsequently when the text file is printed, nothing is produced (i.e., a blank page). I'm using an HP LaserJet 4100N set-up as TCP printing. The '#' and '$' symbols are printed correctly. I've tried using ISO-4 and ISO L1 as the symbol sets on the printer but neither give the desired results.

Can anyone please help?

TIA,
Rab.

Same problem resolved using

tr "\243" "\234" |lp -s -dprintername

Hi adenough,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that we have text files produced as reports containing UK pound symbols from our application. Therefore I need to know how to produce the '£' symbol within a text file and be able to view and print it correctly.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Rab.

What happens if you create a text file that contains...

<esc>(1E##########

and print it on your LaserJet.

I get pound signs on mine.

Of course the <esc> represents the real escape character.
