I have an Intel nic and I'm having trouble making it work in Unix. Can anyone help???

2 quick q's

what version of SCO? (uname -X)
which intel card? (Pro100/Pro100b/etc...)

run 'hw | more' to get the bus, device, and function info.
'hw' will also tell you the manufacturer and model(usually)
hope that helps... works on 505,506 and i think 504... but don't see it on 502.

unfortunately 'hw' will only tell you what you have defined it to be, not what it really is.

No, that's not true. That *can* be true for hwconfig and ISA devices, but "hw -r" pci will actually probe the PCI bus and will show you what's there.

As to making the card work:

If that's an Intel Pro100B, you definitely need the latest drivers from ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/openserver5

If this is 5.0.4 or older, this trick sometimes would pop a pci card out of hiding: go into netconfig, and define an ISA card- doesn't matter what, just pick anything. After defining tcp on it, delete it, and then Add New Lan card again- the hidden pci card will sometimes pop up.

While it did not exist on 5.0.2, SCO has stated that it is legal to transfer "hw" from a newer version and use it. You can find "hw" at ftp://ftp.jpr.com/pub/hw.tgz Tony Lawrence
