I am running SCO Unix on a Compaq PC.The PC cannot boot at all. The problem started with occassional system hang-ups. Resets of the system solved the problem. Then the SCO Unix was able to boot but could not start the application running on the PC. Then when the PC was rebooted, it gave the following error:
'Cannot read PCI configuration space(0)
'H iinit'
'PANIC; srmount-error 22 mounting rootdev hd(1/4)'
'Cannot dump 16031 pages to dumpdev hd(1/41) space for only 0 pages'
'Dump not completed'
' safe to power of or press any key to reboot'
On trying to reboot again the following errors were reported;
'Disk failure'
'Disk controller failure'
I tried to reboot from the boot and root filesystem diskettes and is OK but command for mounting ,
mount /dev/hd0root /mnt fails and reports error ' cannot stat: /dev/hd0root' no such device.
Could the disk have completely failed and need a new one to be re-installed?
