Hello

I have a Compaq server with a an array controller and want to connect 5 drives to each channel on the controller totalling 10 drives. I know the array controller will support it but am not sure if the software will. Can anyone help me. Unfortunately my unix knowledge is non-existent

I am assuming this is a SCSI controller. There shouldn't be a problem. The way array controllers work is they report the array to the OS as a single hard drive, so the number of drives in the array is entirely transparent to the OS. If the OS can handle a hard drive as big as the array, then it can handle the array. I have 2 18 Gigabyte arrays on my SCO system.

SCO works fine with multiple channel controllers. I have a 2 channel controller myself, with an array on each channel. For the install, the first channel is BUS 0 and the second is BUS 1. The ID is whatever SCSI ID the controller reports the array as (see your controller docs), and the LUN is always 0.

It is important that you install using a filesystem type that supports the size of your arrays. From a previous post to this forum by stanhubble:

EAFS -> 2GB filesystem and file size limit
HTFS -> 2GB file size limit, 1 TB filesystem size limit

You will also need to use the correct BLTD for your controller. If a BLTD diskette for SCO didn't come with it, you need to obtain one from the manufacturer (usually available as a download utility that is designed to create the diskette for you).

One more possible item of concern is if your CD-Rom is also SCSI and it is attached to a different controller, because getting both BLTD drivers loaded for the install can be a little tricky, but it is doable (if you have trouble with doing this, put it on a new post and I can probably help you).
