I am trying to install this version on a new server IBM Netfinity xSeries 230 Pent III. It has a Netfinity SERVERAID 4L. When I use the boot disk and then insert the CD, the system gives me an error message - No root disk has been detected. I know there is a command you can type in at the boot prompt, but I haven't found it yet. I can only find information on version 5.05 and higher. Please help. Thank you.

This is probably because the hard drive controller isn't seen.
Normal is to use link at the boot prompt. response is to ask for what package, you tell it what controller package to use. Once the controller sees the hard drive it can continue.
You might have to do another link to get it to see the CD.
As an alternative you might make the cd a boot device, still will need the link to the controller, but if it boots off the cd, the correct drivers for the cd will load automatically. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

This was taken from IBM support:

At the "Boot:" prompt, if you use the ServeRAID controller, type the restart link="ipsraid" Sdsk=ips(0,0,y,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0,0) (where y = the logical drive number defined by the ServeRAID configuration, typically the default is y = 0). Otherwise, press Enter.
If you use the ServeRAID controller, insert the "IPSRAID BTLD" diskette when you are prompted; then, press Enter.
Follow the window instructions that will guide you through the installation process and note the following steps:
At the "Configuring Optional Software" window, select Deferred for the Network Card by pressing the Spacebar to choose your choices.
Select Low Resolution Keyboard Mouse, PS/2(wheel) for two-button mouse or High Resolution Keyboard Mouse, PS/2(wheel) for three-button mouse depending on the type of mouse installed.

Other important thing is that you must first use the cd´s that comes with your
IBM box , i guess are named Server Guide , Hardware Guide and take a look
at the documentation and the right way to initialise your Server .

With the server guide and hardware guide you can tell your machine that you will
install OpenServer 5.0.5 and the cd guide you step by step and at the end it gives you
a text document with the Boot String that you have to type at the installation boot prompt.

I hope this can give you another idea.
