Hi. I have recently been asked to install Sco Openserver 5.0.4 on a Compaq Proliant 1600. I have a cd copy of Sco Openserver 5.0.4 and the Compaq SmartStart 4.70 cd.

Does anyone know how to install Sco on this particular machine? I have tried to install but have failed thus far.

5.0.4 also came with a boot floppy to guide you into the install.
I'm not familiar with the hardware but there may also be special HD controller drivers required.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I don't know if your HD is SCSI or IDE.

In case of IDE you can intent the follwing steps:
Create Boot disk (Floppy 1,4MB). The image you should find on CD.

Download (free) also the new WD-HD driver supplement from SCO (oss478a). Create image on a second FD-disk.

Start installation booting from first FD.

On BOOT prompt, typ in the following string (without Returns):

fd(60)unix root=ram(7) ram.preload=7 swap=none dump=none nbuf=3 isl.S=3 isl.pause ksl.disable hd=wd wd.udma=off pci.bios32 disable=dptr,fdi,ida,wdha ramdisk=fd(64)rootFS link="wd" btld=fd(60)

On prompt put in the second disk. After loading the driver put imediatly in the first fd-disk.

since you have the smartstart cd, just boot from it and select the appropriate install, it will prompt you for the sco media when needed. it will also install the bios utilities and efs for you.

ide hd's are not an option on a proliant 1600 (at least not bootable).

What was the failure that you had?
