Is it acceptable and workable to install SCO OS 5.06 on non-scsi hardware? Will full functionality (i.e. CD, tape, etc) be available? Will the install be quirky? Thanks for any advice. Lee B. Walker

It will install OK (with the 5.0.6a patch), but don't use IDE/udma HD's in other than a support machine, or with a *very* small number of users.
Response times in a mutli-user environment suck in comparison to SCSI, due to the single-treaded design of IDE.
SCSI is multi-threaded and can accept and act on multiple requests at the same time. IDE drives have to wait to complete one request before they can process another.
IDE tape drives, mostly Travan, suck *big time*. They are un-reliable, break often and the media is way more expensive than DAT.
