SCO messages and syslog problems 1

Hi

I have a problem with the messages and syslog files on a Sco OpenServer 5.5 box. We had to remove and recreate them on Friday, but I (stupidly I know) didn't note the correct ownerships and permissions and they aren't being written to now. Can anyone enlightn me? Any other reason they wouldn't be written to? The logs are in /var/adm.

I assume same as 5.04 syslog is -rw-r--r-- root root
messages is -rw-r--r-- bin bin
