I cannot get GCC 3.2.3 to install correctly on my SCO Unixware 7.1.1 server. I have downloaded the file from the gcc site and proceded to run ./configure and make. The ./configure exits with a 0 status, but when I go to run make, I get the following error:

UX:make: ERROR: line 1255: Syntax error.

I verified that this file has the correct size, permissions, etc. I'm not exactly to clear on what is going on here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I had problems compiling "gcc" on SCO Openserver. I ended up just downloading the pre-compiled binaries from SCO's skunkware site: You'll probably get an older version of gcc (maybe pre-3) but at least it will work without any pain.

That's the problem, I need a version of GCC that is 3+ for some other software which I need to install.

I remember when I was trying (maybe a year ago) that I went to the gcc website and on one page was a list of operating systems and the highest version of gcc that was verified to run on that operating system. For SCO Openserver it was something pre-3. Probably similar for Unixware. Don't know if things have changed since then. If not then if you get gcc 3+ working on SCO you may be the first :). Not going to be easy me thinks.
